A brand new cruise ship is auctioned
Helsinki Shipyard has tendered for the sale of SH Vega.
The 10,000-tonne research vessel originally ordered for Swan Hellenic is in the final stages of construction at a Finnish shipbuilder.
According to a announcement published on the shipyard’s website on June 13th the vessel, referred to as Hull 517, will be delivered to the highest bidder on 19 July.
“Helsinki Shipyard Oy strives to get the best fair value for the vessel and reserves the right to reject all offers,” the shipyard says in a press release.
A vessel is also said to be offered for sale “as is, where” without representation, warranty or guarantee of quantity, quality, designation, nature, condition, size or type, or that it is in good condition or fit. used for the purpose for which it is intended.
SH Minerva’s sister, a 152-guest ship, was due to start working for Swan Hellenic in July.
According to Helsinki Shipyard, the research vessel has been designed with a strong focus on the polar regions and has the PC5 Ice Class mark.
It was built by Lloyd’s Register EMEA and conducted marine tests at the end of May.
The tender will take place online and tenders will be sent by e-mail. The deadline for applications is 24 June and the winner will be announced on 1 July.
Bidders are welcome to inspect the vessel for sale before submitting a bid, says Helsinki Shipyard.
After suffering the sanctions of the war between Russia and Ukraine, Swan Hellenic had revealed his plans to acquire the ship in May.
In a statement sent to Cruise Industry News the operator said it exercised the option to buy the vessel from a Russian leasing company on March 31st.
Also completed in 2021, SH Minerva, currently erected in Uruguay, was also in the purchase phase.
“The legal process to transfer full ownership of the vessels to Swan Hellenic is now well under way and is expected to be completed soon,” the company said at the time.
