Benjamin Azamati wins the 100m at the Paris meeting, Jimmy Vicaut third
The temperature was ideal (36 degrees) for the sprinters this early Saturday evening in Charléty but unfortunately no wind. The men’s 100m took place with a strong headwind (-1.6m/s) which obviously penalized the straight line specialists. Ghanaian Benjamin Azamati won in 10”25 ahead of Mouhamadou Fall, 2nd in 10”32 and Jimmy Vicaut, 3rd in 10”34.
“I miss classes. I hurt myself two weeks ago, it still has to come back”
Lap times far from the minimum (10”03) required by the FFA to win a ticket for the Eugène Worlds (July 15-24). “I knew it would be complicated with a strong headwind, you shouldn’t be looking for a time but rather a good feeling in the confrontation, noted Mouhamadou Fall. It’s a shame, because the temperature was conducive to a good time. I’m in great shape, I feel very good, but I still have to prove it at the French Championships in Caen in a week to pass the minima for the Worlds. »
Jimmy Vicaut, hit in early June with a hamstring at the Montreuil meeting where he had signed an interesting 10”10, logically had little rhythm for his return to competition. “I miss lessons, he lamented. I hurt myself two weeks ago, it still has to come back. The conditions were good but it wasn’t enough. I thought I was going faster. We will now see what happens at the French Championships next week. »
