Vaccination against monkeypox possible in Cologne and Düsseldorf from Saturday – news
The third-generation smallpox vaccine comes from the federal government and was delivered on Friday, a spokesman said NRW-Ministry of Health. The vaccine had to be transported and stored at minus 20 degrees Celsius and vaccinated within twelve hours after thawing.
Against this background, a distribution system was written to the pharmacies of the university clinics. In order to create the short-term possibility of being able to vaccinate against monkeypox in medically justified, urgent individual cases, a few vaccine doses are expected to be delivered to the pharmacies of the university clinics in Cologne and Düsseldorf on Saturday, the spokesman said.
Vaccinations initially possible in Cologne and Düsseldorf
Should it be necessary to vaccinate for medical reasons during the weekend or at the beginning of next week, this can be done as part of a medical individual decision at these university clinics. The ministry spokesman explained that the other university clinics in the country have been informed.
Vaccination recommended for risk groups
The Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) recommends vaccination against monkeypox for certain risk groups and people who have had close contact with infected people, as announced last week. Stiko sees an increased risk of infection in men who have same-sex sexual contact with changing partners. Stiko also reports that staff from special laboratories may also be eligible for a preventive vaccination.
