Portugal and the USA defend the adoption of a “holistic approach” to the Atlantic challenges – Observer
Portugal and the United States of America (USA) highlighted this Friday the strategic importance of adopting an “approach to Atlantic challenges, with the Americans thanking Portugal for the “robust contributions” to international security.
These estimates were made this Friday by the US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd J. Austin, and by the Portuguese Defense Minister, Helena Carreiras, after a meeting in Brussels, where affirmed the “strong bilateral defense relationship” between both countries.

“Both leaders highlight the strategic importance of taking a holistic approach,” Pentagon press secretaries Todd Breasseale said in a statement to.
Among the global security issues addressed was Russia’s war in Ukraine, with both rulers highlighting the NATO’s “unshakable unity” and long-term support for Ukrainian sovereignty, with Lloyd J. Austin thanking Helena Carreiras for Portuguese military commitments to the eastern flank of the Atlantic Alliance.
“Both leaders emphasized the importance of Europe’s southern flank,” reads a note.
The secretary also said the “American role in destabilizing the PRC’s malignant influence [República Popular da China] and Russia can play in Africa”, having thanked Portugal for the “robust contributions” to international security.
