On Friday is the groundbreaking for the new Hofwald Trail in the west of Innsbruck. The city has recognized the urgent need for action in terms of infrastructure for bikers, the city said. The trail should be finished by September.
On the eastern edge of the so-called Hofwald, a single trail in the medium difficulty category is being created on areas of the Austrian Federal Forests (ÖBf). The groundbreaking ceremony took place near the Planötzenhof on Friday.
Trail in Hötting should be ready by September
According to the city, the new trail should be as natural as possible, “in part with the integration and adaptation of existing small paths and the existing hilly terrain,” said a press release from the city. “It will probably need a legal and guiding offer and the new trail in the forest area on the north side is an important step towards an appropriate trail offer around Innsbruck,” says Patrick Meraner, chairman of the MTB Innsbruck association.
The bike community will also support the construction work on this trail. The trail will be around three kilometers long. With an average gradient of 10 to 15 percent, the trail will lead from the so-called Bärfallweg in the direction of the city and end above Sadrach. The construction work should be completed by September.
City sees “urgent need for action”
The illegal use of paths and climbs has shown that there is an urgent need for action when it comes to infrastructure in Innsbruck. “The creation of legal trail opportunities has made it clear to us that with a corresponding offer in the city, there are also noticeable steering effects and at the same time the natural environment close to the city is relieved,” said Deputy Mayor Johannes Anzengruber (ÖVP).
