According to the Sant’Anna di Pisa in 2021 La Spezia health has worsened compared to the previous year
The people of La Spezia have known for a while that the health system is suffering. For over 20 years, the number of beds in relation to the population has been the lowest in Liguria and below the threshold established by law. For over thirty years, the chimera of the new hospital has been cut on the horizon, while today’s hospital system is showing more and more every day that it is now anachronistic and deserves retirement. In recent years, then, the problems have sharply increased with the care of personnel, from the Oss to the nurses, passing through technicians and doctors. The resulting picture can only be gloomy, as the report of the Management and Health Laboratory of the Sant’Anna School of Pisa annually demonstrates. And the one published in recent days is no exception. On the contrary: from the analysis of the indicators for the evaluation of health services, the worsening of La Spezia health care between 2020 and 2021 is evident.
Within a year, certainly one of the most difficult in the history of medicine, there was a slight increase in the services that the MeS Laboratory classifies as “excellent”, which went from 20.59 percent to 22.11, but at at the same time, there was a net increase in the performance defined as “bad”, which grew from 30.39 percent in 2020 to 36.84 percent in 2021. The share of “average” performances rose slightly while the “good” and “Scarce”.
Going into detail and therefore examining the target developed by the Pisan academics, the services that hit the center and which can therefore be considered as excellence of the ASL 5 are “Hospitalization Dgr”, “Oncological surgery thresholds” and “Cardio-circulatory area”. Just outside the bull’s-eye are “Pharmaceutical Prescribing Efficiency” and “Diagnostic Appropriateness”.
In the outermost ring, the red one, of the “bad” performances we find “Voluntary discharge”, “Vaccination coverage”, “Respect for max waiting times for cancer surgery” and, worst of all, “Chronic care (diabetes)”. Only a little better, and therefore in the “poor” performance range there are: “Oncology Resilience”, “Pharmaceutical Resilience”, “Opioid Drug Consumption”, “Home Care”, “PISLL Service Efficiency”, “Outpatient Resilience Follow Up “And” Pharmaceutical adherence “.
The target method is a proven system. For years, the MeS Laboratory, on behalf of the Tuscany Region, has been evaluating, on the basis of 300 indicators, the performance of Tuscan health companies and other regions, using the image of the target.
Based on the assessments on La Spezia healthcare, an improvement trend was recorded.
The comparison with the rest of Liguria is not consoling at all, given that only the Asl 3 of the city of Genoa is worse than Asl 5, where, however, the health authorities of the San Martino, Galliera, Evangelico and Gaslini hospitals also insist. , which, with their university centers and their excellence at national level, are not counted in the aggregate, but are examined separately.
It is clear that the ASL 4, the smallest in the region, is the one with the best services, followed by those of Imperia and Savona, which are almost equal in terms of performance considered “bad”, but with the ASL 2 that clearly stands out in terms of services, it classifies as “excellent”, even higher than that of the small company in Tigullio. Tail lights, and with a clear detachment, Asl 3 and to a slightly lesser extent Asl 5, even if the La Spezia people, we remind you, have to travel 100 kilometers to be able to take advantage of the large Genoese hospitals.
