Paris: a 74-year-old Colombian missing since Monday, his family is trying to find him
A 74-year-old Colombian tourist, José Vargas Astudillo, has been missing in Paris since Monday. His family is appealing for help to find him.
The relatives of José Vargas Astudillo are in a blood of ink. Passing through Paris, this 74-year-old Colombian has vanished since Monday. That day, he decided to explore the capital alone, annoyed to see lunch dragging on. He left the other eight members of his family around 2 p.m. and was not repaired.
Asked by the Parisian, his niece, Tatiana, describes him to attract the attention of possible witnesses: “My uncle is 74 years old. He measures 1.62 m, he is of strong build, a beard and white hair. He speaks neither French nor English, only Spanish. Help us find him, we are very worried”.

At the time of his disappearance, José Vargas Astudillo was dressed in a light blue polo shirt, beige pants and green and white tennis shoes. He was also carrying a black backpack.
His niece explains that when they left, they had agreed to meet in the Luxembourg Gardens. But the retiree, a former history teacher in high school, was not there. His relatives waited for him until 8 p.m., before returning to their Airbnb rental, expecting to find him there.
But José Vargas Astudillo was not there and, the next day, Tatiana reported her disappearance to a police officer at Châtelet-les Halles station. She also asked to view the images from the RER D surveillance cameras, which her uncle probably took on Monday, from the Vigneux-sur-Seine station (Essone).
He would have been seen on line 12
“It does not look like him,” worries the young woman, who mobilized “the network of Latinos in Paris” to relay the wanted notice on social networks. In doing so, she also learned that the withdrawal would have been seen by two people on line 12 of the metro, this Wednesday.
The driver would even have seen him “heading for line 6”, which Tatiana Vargas hastened to take in search of her uncle. In vain. In desperation, the young woman also went to Roissy, where she and her family were to fly to Italy, the next stop on their vacation in Europe. But José Vargas Astudillo was not there either.
Several family members took this plane to Italy, but Tatiana stayed in Paris. She distributes wanted notices near the Place de Clichy, where her uncle is said to have been seen. With anguish, she sees June 21, the supposed date of the return to Colombia, approaching.
“With the heat, maybe without money to eat, my uncle, who is undergoing treatment for hypertension, can be dehydrated,” she points out. Worried to find out alone in a city where “he has no landmarks”, the young woman encourages anyone with information to contact her via WhatsApp (+57 302 28 82 027). It is also possible to reach Patricia on 06 71 46 10 72.
