Norway’s European Championship rival England warmed up with 3-0 over Belgium
It happened at the arena where the men were crushed 0-4 by Hungary in the national league on Tuesday.
England is the favorite in Norway’s EC group and is now undefeated in 12 matches under its Dutch national team manager Sarina Wiegmann. The team squandered the chances in the first half, but Wiegmann succeeded with the substitutions and saw two substitutes score the first goals.
After 62 minutes, Chloe Kelly came on for Lucy Bronze. She cut into the field and shot into goal via the leg of Amber Tysiak.
Four minutes later, there was a pinball game in the field after a corner kick. Leah Williamson’s shot was blocked, but Rachel Daly knocked back into the net.
Both Kelly and Daly came in at the break.
Patient
83 minutes into the match, Belgium’s keeper Nicky Evrard swiftly ran past WIlliamson and nutmegged the keeper!
– We dominated the match and got lots of chances, but did not manage to score before the break. We just gave them a chance. During the break, I asked for more races, and for patience, Wiegmann told ITV.
She particularly highlighted Kelly, who joined the European Championship squad after fighting back from a serious knee injury.
– It was great to be back in the national team, and fantastic to score as well, said the Manchester City player himself.
Meets Norway
Belgium is in Norway’s World Cup qualifying group. Norway beat the Belgians 4-0 at Ullevaal last autumn and because of that the World Cup ticket is deep in their pockets before this autumn’s final matches.
Norway meets England in Brighton on 11 July. England will again have warm-up matches against the Netherlands in Leeds on 24 June and against Switzerland away on 30 June, before the team meets Austria in the European Championship’s opening match at Old Trafford on 6 July.
Norway plays its first match against Northern Ireland in Southampton the next day.
