Helsinki-Vantaa Airport will undergo a historic change on June 21st
Starts 6/21/2022The airport company Finavia concentrates check-in, security checks and baggage retrieval in one terminal at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.
“We are turning a new magazine into the history of Helsinki-Vantaa, as departing and returning passengers will henceforth be served in our new, magnificent terminal. Passengers no longer have to think about which terminal they are departing from or arriving at,” says Ulla Lettijeff“, Director of Finavia Helsinki-Vantaa.
Getting around the airport is easier at one terminal. It also makes life easier for those who encounter or escort passengers. Services are centralized under one roof, making them even more accessible.
Cars and taxis can now drive directly in front of the main doors to leave passengers. The terminal can be reached by elevator from the train station and the new parking garage P1 / P2. Other car parks and short-term parking spaces for people receiving passengers are also just a few minutes ’walk from the main doors of the terminal. The bus station and bike park are also right in front of the terminal entrance doors.
Terminals 1 and 2 and the corridor connecting them will be taken out of service. The old departure and arrival halls will be closed and converted into passenger and passenger spaces.
“The last time Helsinki-Vantaa Airport operated was in one terminal almost 30 years ago. The terminal in use at that time was the first actual passenger terminal, which was opened in 1969 and later expanded in 1983,” says Lettijeff.
In 1993, international and domestic air traffic were separated and a new domestic flight terminal was opened at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. About 15 years later, an airline-specific terminal division was introduced and Terminals 1 and 2 were introduced. Helsinki-Vantaa Airport was originally opened for the Helsinki Olympics 70 years ago.
More services than before
During the spring and early summer, several new services have been launched at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, such as 24/7 Alepa, the beloved Moomin Shop and Plaza Premium Lounge, which offers lounge, meeting, hairdressing and beauty services.
An interesting world of restaurants has also recently opened, with Lopez y Lopez, Pretty Boy Wingery, Levant, Bär Bar and Richie’s Gourmet Hot Dogs serving flavors from around the world.
Balmuir and Marimekko, which are located in the gate area immediately after the security check, are also new.
“Our almost 10-year development program is nearing completion. Work at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport will be completed next year when the new baggage hall is opened. Construction sites are still visible throughout the terminal, as a few new points of service are under construction,” says Lettijeff.
