Not from Salzburg: Leipzig on the ÖFB star – football
Will RB Leipzig get another ÖFB team player? According to a report, the Saxons are targeting midfielder Xaver Schlager.
According to “Bild”, the 24-year-old is considered the absolute dream player for the midfield headquarters in the grass ballers. There are said to have already been several conversations between Schlager and the Bull bosses.
The central midfielder, who was one of the strongest in the first international four-pack under coach Ralf Rangnick, is still under contract with Bundesliga competitor Wolfsburg until 2023 and has recently been repeatedly traded as a candidate for departure. Schlager is said to have anchored a 40 million euro exit clause in his contract. It is doubtful that RB actually digs so deep into their pockets. A sum of around 30 million euros, on the other hand, seems realistic.
Salzburg past as a plus
Although Schlager is currently playing in Wolfsburg, he went through the Salzburg youth team before moving to Wolfsburg in 2019 for twelve million euros. That’s why the 24-year-old knows the Bulls’ style of play and would be an immediate reinforcement. And could possibly replace his compatriot Konrad Laimer. He was last associated with a move to Bayern Munich. With ex-Salzburg player Amadou Haidara, who had an offer from Newcastle in the winter, and Tyler Adams, two other midfielders are about to leave.
After surviving his cruciate ligament rupture, Schlager only played 15 games for the “Wolves” this season, but was still an indispensable regular in midfield. Therefore, Borussia Dortmund was also said to be interested in the ÖFB star.
