1. FC Köln will meet SSV Jahn Regensburg in the first round of the DFB Cup on July 30th. All 32 matches were scheduled on Wednesday.
Cologne/Berlin – It’ll be back on track soon! The new football season 2022/23 starts for the 1. FC Cologne with the first competitive game in DFB Cup against SSV Jahn Regensburg on July 30th.
The exact schedule for the 32 matches in the first round of the cup was announced this Wednesday morning.
The dissolution of the pairings took place on May 29th and for the team of coach Steffen Baumgart (50) with second division Regensburg relatively difficult lot ready.
The game will kick off on Saturday at 3.30 p.m., one week before the start of the Bundesliga. The party cannot be seen on free TV. The first only shows the games 1. FC Magdeburg against Eintracht Frankfurt and Viktoria Cologne against FC Bayern Munich.
First title for 1. FC Köln: Steffen Baumgart voted “Coach of the Year”.
“There are basically easier cup tasks than playing in the second division in the first round. The fact that it will then be SSV Jahn is one of those stories that only football writes,” said Christian Keller (43) after the draw.
The FC managing director previously worked for more than eight years as club boss and sporting director in Regensburg and thus meets familiar faces.
Baumgart, who recently extended his contract with FC until 2025 according to a media report, even emphasized: “We could hardly have gotten a heavier lot – away from second division teams it’s a lot of work. (…) The only thing that counts for us is progressing to the next round.”
1. FC Köln has big plans for the coming season. With seventh place in the table, the billy goats had qualified for the play-offs of the Europa Conference League and are thus playing internationally again for the first time after years of dry spells.
