The 13-year-old Husein Salimov, who was deported to Azerbaijan with his family in February, is not allowed to return to Salzburg if the Public Order Office has its way. The authority writes in a statement that there is an entry ban. However, the final decision is still pending.
Husein’s case had triggered a lot of criticism, the child’s welfare had not been taken into account, the children’s rights commission found after the deportation. Husein will be 14 at the end of June, he doesn’t go to school in Azerbaijan, according to his supporters in Salzburg he has no friends there and will have to make up for a few school years because he’s been living in Salzburg for years.
Supporters in Salzburg are not giving up
Husein is a gifted table tennis player, he also practiced the sport in Salzburg. In Azerbaijan, the nearest opportunity to practice the sport is 300 kilometers away. His supporters are convinced that the 13-year-old would find an apprenticeship after school in Austria and then a job, says Husein’s supporter in Salzburg, Walter Windischbauer. He was chairman of Austria Salzburg for many years and is now deputy chairman of the table tennis club UTTC Salzburg.
Authority imposed an entry ban for two years
The Salzburg authorities are now sending a letter informing them that an entry ban has been imposed on Husein for a period of two years and that a student visa has therefore been rejected.
Windischbauer gives a statement
Supporters of Husein had organized a declaration of liability, a rental agreement, health insurance and a school confirmation in Salzburg. Friends and family should take care of him. Walter Windischbauer will respond to the authority’s letter within 14 days. He hopes that Husein’s future will not be permanently obstructed, said Windischbauer.
