SWISS extends the AirPortr service to Switzerland
Sometimes you don’t want to lug your luggage around – whether it’s for convenience or the joy of getting it from A to B and things like stairs (a suitcase’s worst enemy), SWISS is to expand its partnership with AirPortrthat covers it all Switzerland.
The luggage service has been available to customers flying out of Geneva Airport since last October in a test phase.
SWISS travelers departing from or arriving at Zurich Airport can now also use AirPortr’s intelligent baggage services to have their baggage collected and checked in or delivered back to their home or hotel. These services can be booked at any time www.swiss.com.
Passengers can have their luggage collected from their home or hotel up to 23 hours before departure. You must complete an online check-in to use the service, which will be verified during pickup.
The bags are then sealed to ensure safe transport to the airport of departure, where they will undergo standard security checks. After landing, your luggage will be collected from the luggage carousel as usual.
Those using the arrival service fill out a simple online “e-Customs Declaration” that allows AirPortr to collect the passenger’s luggage, clear customs and deliver it to their final address.
Customers are kept up to date at every step via email and SMS. They can track their baggage at any time through the AirPortr web app and receive digital copies of their flight baggage receipts.

SWISS Chief Commercial Officer Tamur Goudarzi Pour said:
“Following our initial success with our new partnership with AirPortr, we can now continue to improve our customers’ travel experience.”
“The popularity of this simple ground luggage transport service between people’s homes and Geneva Airport has already shown us that there is a strong demand to get to the airport less burdened with luggage. We are therefore very pleased to be able to offer this attractive option to all our customers throughout Switzerland.”
Randel Darby, CEO of AirPortr Technologies: added
“As of today, SWISS customers arriving from all over Switzerland can travel baggage-free not only from Geneva, but also from Zurich Airport. This addition of AirPortr to their main hub is a fantastic step forward in our relationship with SWISS after testing the product during a successful six month trial. With very attractive market prices, we expect continued strong growth in demand from Swiss consumers; with baggage-free, intermodal travel to and from the airport, now more accessible than ever.”
Costs
So a service like this is going to add up – but if you look at the cost, it might not be that bad depending on how far along you are.
In the Zurich area, the cost of two pieces of luggage is CHF 39 (USD 39.35, €37.56, £32.19). Outside the Zurich area, the cost increases to CHF 69.00 (US$69.64, €66.45 . £56.95)
Services can be booked at any time www.swiss.com.
Removing the supporting aspect
There have been more than a few occasions when I would most like to walk out of the airport with my luggage and not worry about it finding its way back to me, and allow myself to take any mode of transportation I wish – be it car, train or otherwise.
It will be a useful enabler for those who need to travel light.
It’s a major expansion for airporters as they no longer only offer the service in London. They also work with Britsh Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Qantas, Cathay Pacific, American Airlines and Finnair.
Covering an entire country is going to be an interesting thing – and it will be interesting to see how it goes.
