JEWISH PRIEST began its European tour spring / summer 2022 with an intimate concert on May 31 in Berlin, Germany. For the gig, which was held at Huxley’s Neue Welt arena with 1,600 capacity, Halford and his bandmates abandoned their traditional look of leather and rivets in favor of a more stripped-down look.
Last month, Halford told ABC Audio that PRIEST was in the process of “tracking” follow-up to the 2018s “Fire power” album.
“You can never get enough songs when you make an album,” he said. “Songs that you did not even know you had pieces and fragments of, suddenly they become an incredibly important part of your record.”
Regarding the musical direction of the new JEWISH PRIEST material, Rob said: “The music we make now is representative of where PRIEST is on this probably sixth decade of our existence when it comes out … It sounds good. I’m really happy. I’m really, really happy that … we’re not letting go of the ball. Not what we’ve ever done. But it’s good, because there are some elements there that we’ve never had … kind of discovered before. “
More than a year ago, Halford confirmed it PRIESTOn the next album, the band will be reunited with “Fire power” production team consisting of Andy Sneaplong-term employee Tom Allom and engineer Mike Exeter (BLACK SABBATH).
Bassist Ian Hill is the only remaining original member of PRIESTwhich was formed in 1969. Halford joined the group in 1973 and guitarist Glenn Tipton wrote in 1974. Rob left PRIEST in the early 1990s to form his own band, then came back to PRIEST 2003. Founding guitarist KK Downing differed from the band in 2011 and was replaced by Richie Faulkner.
Tipton was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease eight years ago after suffering from the condition at least half a decade earlier. Tipton announced in early 2018 that he would be out on tour activities in support of “Fire power”. He was replaced by Sneapwho is also known for his work in NWOBHM revivalists HELL and cool thrash outfit SABBATH.
Last March, Faulkner told “Metal from the inside” podcast about the recording process for the new one PRIEST album: “A lot has been slowed down due to, obviously, the pandemic. We wanted to meet, as we did on “Fire power”and record it together, but obviously, the locks and all that slowed down that process [down]. Some of us live in the US, some of us live in the UK, so meeting has been a bit difficult in recent years. Now everything is opening up, it’s a little easier, but now we’re on our way, so we have a touring bike [to get through]. So, if we can, maybe we can do it between touring cycles. “
When it comes to when fans can expect to get the next one PRIEST album, Faulkner said: “We do not have a release date. It is not finished. We have the songs, but we have to record it. We have drums. I do not know if it has even been said yet. So we will try to build it when we go through this touring bike. But som Rob always says it’s done when it’s done. At this point in their careers, there is no point in rushing anything, especially when we have been waiting so long through the pandemic to start doing so. It will be done when it is ready. But there comes be another PRIEST record. We have some good songs. “
Regarding the musical direction of the new PRIEST material, Richie said: “It’s different than “Fire power”, but it’s definitely … You can hear where it’s coming from. It’s not even ‘Firepower 2’… It’s hard to say something these days without people getting… If I say it’s like a continuation of “Fire power”people think it is ‘Firepower 2’. It has its own character, it has its own legs, and we look forward to releasing it when it’s done. “
In February, Halford was asked by Remy Maxwell of Audacy check in if he agreed Faulkners latest comment that the band’s upcoming album will be more musically “progressive” than “Fire power”. He replied: “Yes, the metal is there. But here’s the thing: we’ve tried our best not to replicate anything we’ve done. From ‘Rocka Rolla’ all the way to “Fire power”, each disc has had a distinctive character. And it’s tough because fans say, ‘We want one more ‘Painkillers’” We want another one ‘British Steel’. ‘ And [it’s, like]’Dude, we’ve already done that.’
“Fans know we are a band that is always full of adventure and trying new things,” he continued. “And so, yes, this probably has some more progressive elements that we’ve never really delved into before. And it’s exciting, because again, it gives us and our fans another chance to see a different side of PRIEST. But it’s still metal. There is just more to it. There are more notes than there used to be. “
The same month, Faulkner told Canada The metal voice about the overall sound of the new PRIEST music: “When you start a record, you never know what it’s going to be like. And it’s really hard to summarize your own music, I think, without sounding really pretentious. But I think this – it’s not ‘Firepower 2’, I do not think so. It’s its own thing, it’s its own animal. If anything, I would say that it is a little more progressive in its places, and in its places it has a little more of it ‘Killer machine’ boast.”
Faulkner added: “I know everyone says, ‘Oh, it’s next ‘Painkillers’? ‘ or “Is it next …?” whatever … I do not know if they ever did, but I know we never did when I was in the band; we have never tried to recreate an album. We always try to create an album that stands on its own two feet. So I think it’s definitely a little more progressive than that “Fire power” and, as I said, in some places there is a bit of it ‘Killer machine’ angry waffle attitude going on. But again, as I said, we’ll be waiting to see how it will be, because it can be completely different.
