Paraglider pilot spent four hours in Fichte
timeline
A German paraglider got stuck in a 25 meter high treetop in an alpine high forest in Hüttau (Pongau) on Sunday. As the police announced, it took a quick four-hour rescue operation by mountain rescuers and alpine police officers to free the 51-year-old from the predicament.
The paraglider took off from the Bischling in Werfenweng around noon and was in the Larzenbachgraben area around 1 p.m., according to the police. According to the pilot, the paraglider folds in briefly, and then the crash at an altitude of about 1,490 meters into the high forest there could no longer be prevented.
The 51-year-old got stuck in the crown of a spruce and was unable to free himself. According to the police, a rescue by helicopter was not possible because there was a risk that the pilot would be thrown off the tree by the wind and the vortex of the rotors. After the four-hour rescue operation, the man was finally brought down to the valley unharmed.
