Naples, the University underground station closes for 4 months
Here the subway will stop no longer. Starting from Wednesday 15 June and for a duration of about 4 months the University station of Naples line 1 will remain closed because radical washing works will be carried out on the pavement from the platform level to the stairs on to the Piazza Borsa station. However, the circulation of trains will not undergo any changes.
Activated in 2010, project by Alessandro Mendini and by the designer Karim Rashid, starting from 2015 the station immediately began to suffer frequent phenomena of instability of the prestigious pavements. Over time local restorations have been carried out but the phenomenon has progressively spread, determining the need for technical investigations. Thus it was ascertained that the manufacturing and laying process of the flooring was affected by humidity over time.
There Naples subway, at the instigation of the Administration and Anm, it has identified a more suitable material such as the one in question and will take care of the relative installation. The design and geometry of the different station floors will remain unchanged. In addition, during the works, from 15 June to 15 October, the station will be closed to the public but will remain manned by ANM staff for any emergencies, fulfilling the same escape route. “This period has been chosen” declared the commissioner Edoardo Cosenza “to minimize the impact on students and citizens”.
