Alternative accommodation for the recycling center of the city of Salzburg
Business
The recycling center in Maxglan in the city of Salzburg has been undergoing renovations since last week. An alternative quarters was set up at the rear of the company premises. The renovation should be completed by January.
The provisional recycling center only has 50-60 percent of the capacity compared to the previous waste collection center. Therefore, not so many cars can be unloaded at the same time at the temporary facility, says the head of the waste service of the city of Salzburg, Jürgen Wulff-Gegenbaur: “We can manage four to five vehicles at once. But of course there is a limitation of capacity. There is simply a lack of space here. A lot of what we usually do with a stapler whenever we now do it by hand”.
Traffic regulations have been adapted
The recycling yard was dismantled within three days and a temporary solution was erected. In any case, the first few days at the temporary waste collection center went well: “We still had to adapt something in terms of transport. We have up to 400 entries per day. This is a great challenge for the employees, the customers and the residents. We have already made adjustments based on the empirical values from last weekend.”
Appeal: “Avoid rush hours”
Access to the temporary recycling center is not via the main entrance on Siezenheimer Straße, but via Teisenberggasse. The manager of the refuse service asks customers, if possible, not to come at the typical peak times, around Saturday lunchtime. In addition, he advises not to drive for each piece individually, but rather to collect some bulky waste if possible before driving to the recycling center.
Conversion costs around five and a half million
Where excavators demolished the structures, roofs and ramps of the old recycling yard, a much larger and more modern recycling yard with an area of 6,000 square meters is to be opened in January. The costs for the conversion amount to almost five and a half million euros.
