1. FC Cologne: Buddy Höger commits himself: That’s why Anthony Modeste stays in Cologne – Bundesliga
What will become of FC striker Anthony Modeste (34/contract until 2023) in the summer?
His contract will not be extended despite the 20-goal season – the striker’s hopes have already been dashed by sports director Christian Keller (43/”Currently we are not able to extend it”).
Tony’s closest buddy from FC times still doesn’t believe in a summer departure, but in a Modeste future in Cologne!
“Yes, because in the end he can already assess that savings have to be made at FC,” explains Marco Höger (32) in the BILD interview and above all names one argument for Tony’s loyalty to Cologne: Europe!
In 2017, Modeste shot FC into international business and was then sold to China before he could play with Höger and Co. against Arsenal, Belgrade and Borissow.
Höger: “He has a lot of melancholy that he missed the Europa League back then. He would have liked to play it – so yes, he’s looking forward to it!”
Nevertheless, Höger warns against too high expectations. “You can’t assume that Tony will automatically score 20 goals again. I hope he builds on that. But the opponents will adapt differently to FC and Tony in the new season.”
Called: The second Baumgart season will be more difficult – for FC, the coach and especially for Modeste.
A trump card for the French? His attitude and physical condition after the troubled years under Baumgart’s predecessors. Höger: “Tony is fitter than before!”
► In addition, Cologne brought in Steffen Tigges (23) another striker from Dortmund (BILD reported). This will also continue to drive Modeste, to get everything out of herself – even at the age of 34…
