Salzburg plant Block processing for vacationers at the Austrian border
Vacationers are threatened with a holiday weekend Mega traffic jam at the border near Salzburg: The Austrian federal state works block processing on these days for all vehicles!
Munich – The federal state of Salzburg is planning block handling for all vehicles on busy travel weekends. This would mean in conclusion that on holiday weekends the border at the Walserberg motorway border crossing (A8) WILL be intermittent, with only a limited number of cars likely to pass. A mega traffic jam would be inevitable.
At Kufstein, the block handling of trucks regularly causes traffic jams
Tyrol has been doing this with trucks for years. On Wednesday, this caused a backwater from Kufstein (A93) to the A8 at Seehamer See near Weyarn. Cars and trucks were stuck in traffic jams for 45 kilometers.
At Pentecost the Tauernautobahn was hopelessly congested
The block handling at the Walserberg for all vehicles is now being discussed in Salzburg, as there were up to 48 kilometers of traffic jams on the Tauerenautobahn between Salzburg and Flachau at Pentecost. The evasive traffic prevents the neighboring communities.

Salzburg politician speaks of “emergency measure”
The planned block handling is an “emergency measure”, according to the Salzburg State Transport Councilor Stefan Schnöll (ÖVP). “There is already a corresponding report for this,” the politician continued on ORF. “However, this is difficult to implement.” It is about technical and legal issues. “ASFINAG has certified that it is legally possible”, Schnöll refers to the Austrian motorway operator. According to ORF, Bavaria’s Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter is threatening EU infringement proceedings.
