In Paris, a shopping center accepts payments in cryptocurrencies, a first in France
Paying for lessons using virtual currency is now possible in the heart of Paris. The Beaugrenelle shopping center in the 15th arrondissement of the capital, not far from the Eiffel Tower, is the scene of an experiment aimed at allowing the public to pay for purchases using cryptocurrencies. A first in France. The experiment should last a month.
In the 110 shops in the centre, it is now possible to pay in bitcoin, for example. An evolution required by Stéphane Brionne, the director: “We are going to address a more informed public. We will succeed in bringing people from digital to physical commerce and that is a first in this direction”.
To do this, you must download an application, buy cryptocurrencies or transfer them if you already have them. The rest is quite simple: “You go to your merchant, at the checkout, you bring the amount in euros, you choose the active crypto with which you want to pay, the merchant scans the QR code and the transaction is complete”, explains Damien Pasture. , founder of the Lizy application.
The maximum amount is 250 euros via a gift card. But the entrepreneur wants to see further in the long term. “The ultimate goal is to be able to buy your baguette or pain au chocolat in cryptocurrencies, of course,” he says. Even if for the moment, customers are quite hesitant, other brands are already reimbursed by this payment solution.
