Avignon, a child-friendly city: Avignon City Hall
This Friday, June 10, Avignon joined the UNICEF network, City friend of children, and integrates a very closed circle of nearly 260 municipalities, 15 intermunicipalities and 4 departments.
To join this network, the City of Avignon was a candidate by positioning social innovation, the interests of children and the principles of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of its policy.
Avignon, Child-Friendly City, is the recognition of quality actions and initiatives, aimed at 0-18 year olds.
Recognition of a commitment
Joining this network is recognition for all the actions needed by the community, but also a commitment to the future. That of continuing the dynamic company, of the amplifier, by initiating always more new actions intended for the children of Avignon. The City also now has a privileged framework for exchanges with the other member communities, allowing the sharing of respective actions and practices, in order to better inspire each other, to create mutual synergies in favor of children.
Being a child-friendly city means spending significant financial, human and material resources for the well-being and development of children, but it is above all a philosophy. A commitment that permeates every municipal decision: that of continuing to build “a City at the height of children”.
Five Themes for a Child-Friendly City
A child-friendly city is a place where everyone enjoys their childhood and youth, and develops their full potential through equal rights for everyone.
In order to make it a reality, the City of Avignon is committed to 5 themes, in the form of commitments, carried by UNICEF and having the long-term objective of guaranteeing sustainable results for children, and ensuring to advance their rights thanks to the capacities of all the actors of the territory.
These five commitments are:
- Ensure the well-being of each child, by promoting and supporting their development, respect and individuality
- Affirm its desire to fight against exclusion, against all forms of discrimination and to act in favor of equity
- Allow and offer a quality educational path to each child and young person in its territory
- Develop, promote, value and take into consideration the participation and commitment of each child and young person
- Forge a partnership with UNICEF France to contribute to its mission of monitoring, raising awareness and respecting children’s rights in France and around the world.
As part of the file submitted by the City of Avignon for its application to be a child-friendly city, an action plan, according to the commitments made, has been carried out. This action plan is a roadmap for children to continue to flourish and live their life as children in an exceptional city!
