Australian mare will have a big impact in Sweden
Pegasus Spur The mare Maori Time – Australasia’s fastest trotting mare ever with the record 1: 51.5, a five-time group 1 winner and the winner of $ 421,700 in stake money – is ready to make an even bigger impact as a breeding mare in Sweden.
A competitor in the 2018 Elite Race, the now 12-year-old remained in Sweden after his brilliant racing career on the track and is currently based at the prestigious Menhammar stud, 45 minutes from Stockholm.
She is bred by her breeder-owner, Melbourne businessman Fred Crews, Aldebaran Park principal Duncan McPherson and Menhammar Stud.
The agreement means that the partners will breed the first three foals from the Maori period.
Maori Times first foal is a magnificent stallion after Menhammar’s father, double Swedish Horse of the Year and Prix dÁmerique winner Readly Expressrated one of the hottest young stallions in Europe today.
The foal named Generally Speaking (pictured) is being prepared for the online auction Menhammar Stud which will be held in early July.
Her second offspring, one Readly Express stallion born on May 26, will be retained by the group and is expected to compete in Europe.
Maori Time has been served by this year’s Elite Race participants Who is whothe leading son of the legendary racehorse Maharajah, the foremost father in Sweden for the past two years.
“We hope that she will have a mare with her third foal. This would make it possible for the group to keep the Maori Time genetics in Sweden with the intention that we would compete with her in Sweden and Europe and keep her there for future breeding purposes,” says McPherson.
Once she has foaled, Maori Time will be bred a fourth time in the southern hemisphere for the Readly Express horse Calgary Games – called the new star of Swedish trotting – and shipped to Australia.
The Calgary Games have won 16 of their 18 starts so far, including the 2021 Swedish and European derby.
