USL participates in the work of the 110th Oil conference underway in Geneva
The San Marino workers union is taking part in these days in the work of the 110th edition of the International Labor Conference in Geneva. The goal is to provide increasingly effective answers to all those problems concerning working conditions, gender pay differences and exposure to occupational health and safety risks in the workplace, together with the development of a social economy. and solidarity that aims at a fair globalization and a progressive reduction of the conditions of poverty. It is crucial to provide and tools to all those who want to build a future and have a participatory role in society, through decent work that is an expression of their skills, knowledge and skills. It is also important that each country works to foster and strengthen the social dialogue between government, workers’ organizations and employers, a crucial tool for improving the quality of work and consequently the well-being of all citizens. “The well-being of workers and consequently the success of businesses – underlines the Secretary of Industry and Crafts of the USL, Enrico Biordi – necessarily go through the promotion and maintenance of good working conditions. Therefore understanding and removing every aspect that hinders its achievement is a fundamental step for the realization of decent work for all “. In this regard, it is estimated that people with disabilities represent about 15 per cent of the world population, of which about 80 per cent are of working age, but to whom the right to decent work, however, is still often denied. . In fact, people with disabilities, in particular women with disabilities, often face significant attitudinal, physical and information barriers in entering the world of work and, compared to non-disabled people, have higher rates of unemployment and economic inactivity and therefore risk more than that of being in conditions of marginalization and poverty, often due to an insufficient social safety net. Furthermore, one of the central themes of the Conference is that relating to the promotion and development of a “care economy”, as one of the main sources of decent work and employment. In fact, investing in this area would stimulate economic growth through the creation of new and numerous jobs: the care economy is growing as the number of childcare and elderly care is constantly increasing globally, however the worldwide care work characterized by a lack of benefits and protections, low wages and exposure to both physical and mental harm. In this regard, there are new solutions for assistance both relating to the nature and offer of assistance policies and services and relating to the terms and conditions of the care work. Finally, on the issue of health and safety in the workplace, emphasis was placed on the three million lives lost every year due to work-related injuries and illnesses, and on the responsibility of all the actors involved in identifying tools and solutions. less and less postponable that put a stop to this intolerable situation, which totally undermines not only the concept of decent work but also that above all of social justice.
