SE: Grant scores the first goal for FC Rosengård in Sweden
Midweek’s action in NWSL and Damallsvenskan will see Charli Grant score his first goal for FC Rosengård and San Diego Wave FC will make a late draw against the Portland Thorns.
An Australian found the net in Sweden, while Wave FC remains in first place on the NWSL steps after a late 2-2 decision against the Portland Thorns.
Kick-off in the USA, Emily van EgmondSan Diego Wave FC welcomed the Portland Thorns, the guests got off to a perfect start with Sophia Smith finding the opener from the venue.
Sofia Jakobsson seemed to have the equalizer, with her shot over the line, however, the hosts would remain scoreless. Van Egmond milled in a shot from far out that hit the post, with Wave taking a 1-0 lead at the break.
Canadian veteran Christine Sinclair moved to second place on the NWSL goal scorer list of all time, still 19 goals behind Sam Kerr, when she doubled Thorn’s advantage on the other side of the break.
Two goals in the final 10 minutes to Taylor Kornieck saw Wave secure a late 2-2 draw to hold on to first on the steps.
Moving to Sweden, Teagan Micah and Charli GrantFC Rosengård extended their unbeaten game to 13 matches with a 6-0 win over Kalmar. Micah and Grant both started for the visitors.
Grant scored his first goal ever for Rosengård and came at the end of a bad corner clearance and gave a 4-0 lead at the break.
Grant then became a supplier and took an assist on Rosengård’s sixth and final goal of the match. The side remains at the top of the table and is five points ahead of second place.
Courtney Nevin and Kyra Cooney-Cross’ Hammarby traveled to take on KIF Örebro, where Nevin got the start and Cooney-Cross appointed on the bench for the first time.
Madelen Janogy opened the scoring for Hammarby in the 43rd minute, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead at the break.
Nevin had a chance to take the lead on Hammarby’s dazzling drive up the left, but the opportunity fizzled away as his shot went just over the bar after 84 minutes. Hammarby collects a 1-0 win over KIF Örebro and keeps the seventh on the steps.
Meanwhile, Clare Polkinghorne and Katrina Gorry‘s Vittsjö GIK lost 2-0 to Kristianstads DFF. Polkinghorne and Gorry played the whole match for Vittsjö as a support from Évelyne Viens and saw Kristianstads win their eighth victory of the season.
The last match in Sweden saw Remy Siemsens AIK host Piteå. AIK recorded their second victory of the season with a late goal.
Siemsen played the entire match on the front, with a winner in the 82nd minute from Honoka Hayashi who secured the 1-0 win.
