San Marino. “Termination of pregnancy, the Commission is late”
“Eight months have passed since the Referendum and the law that regulates the voluntary termination of pregnancy is still firm at the first reading. The transition to the relative Permanent Council Commission is late in being scheduled “.
The UDS (Union of San Marino Women) writes it in a note, “Last Tuesday the Most Excellent Captains Regent received some representatives of UDS in audience; during the meeting, their Excellencies, listened to with interest and sensitivity, expressed by the people on the slow continuation of the legislative process and on the final text of the law that could result from a lack of or inadequate confrontation between the political forces.
From the referendum in September until today, UDS has never stopped working. After presenting to all political parties a document on the fundamental aspects to be included in good legislation on the IVG, the association has drawn up its own amendments to the bill of the State Congress. The amended article was sent to all political forces with the hope that it will be received in the broadest and most shared way possible.
UDS also met with the “Uno di Noi” association, a former referendum committee. besides the confrontation was cordial and serene, UDS was unable to register any convergence on the amendments presented by the counterpart. The positions remain so far apart that joint work has not been possible. In some cases UDS has remarked that the amendments proposed by “Uno di Noi” actually prevent women from accessing the IVG, creating unacceptable obstacles and distortions totally absent from the Italian legislation.
In conclusion, UDS expresses dissatisfaction with the political action which, with an unjustified delay, has not yet provided the country with a law that incorporates the popular will and hopes that by the end of July the process can be concluded with a legislation that grants women access to a right that arrives in San Marino with a frightening delay.
