On the occasion of the 5th edition of Printemps Asiatique Paris, the famous unusual and historic pagoda of the 8th arrondissement, opens exceptionally from Wednesday June 8 to Sunday June 16, 2022. On this occasion, a crazy exhibition of masterpieces of Asian art from the most prestigious international galleries opens up to us.
Closed to the public, the pagoda which is located rue de Courcelles in the 8th district looks like a UFO in Paris. With her red facade and its typical Chinese roof, one cannot fail to notice it when passing by. Have you always wanted to discover the interior? it’s time to wake up. Indeed, from June 8 to 16, 2022, the place is exceptionally open to visitors on the occasion of the Asian Spring Paris 2022. At first glance announced as free, this exhibition finally turns out to be paying and will cost 15€ to enter. However, it remains a very nice discovery to make.
This emblematic place of asian arts and its Parisian market is a Haussmannian building which in the 1920s became the setting for the collections of the famous merchant Ching Tsai Loo. At first glance, the buildings was a hotel In particular, after its acquisition in 1922, Ching Tsai Loo decided to transform it into a veritable palace for his personal collections, thus promoting the activities of his galleries specializing in Far Eastern art, from Paris to New York via London.
Assisted by the architect Fernand Bloch, Monsieur Loo adapted the Haussmann building into a pagoda with asian influences. The exterior of the building, entirely red, is decorated with architectural elements characteristic of Buddhist places of worship. The coffered ceilings of the interior lounges are decorated with Chinese motifs and the walls with Shanxi lacquer panels dating from the 18th century.
For the very first time, Specialized French gallery owners and antique dealers welcome their counterparts international for a exposure collegiate within the mythical Pagoda. The American galleries Alan Kennedy Asian Art, Sanjay Kapoor, and English, Runjeet Singh, Sue Ollemans, Malcolm Fairley Ltd, Brandt Asian Art Ltd, come unveil their most beautiful works of Asian art.
This exhibition comes from 7 international galleries you assist on 2 floors. It’s up to you to discover sculptures, jewellery, prints but also porcelain, furniture and other decorative objects.
