Rognoni and Colopi (Italian Left): “In Genoa, resources concentrated on major events, crumbs for archives and libraries”
Genoa. An appeal to the candidates for mayors has recently come out in which the three sector associations (Aib, Anai and Icom), denounce the state of fragility of libraries, archives and museums in Genoa due to the lack of sufficient investments to guarantee a solid and harmonious development of cultural institutions at the municipal level.
Italian Left Genoa fully what is expressed by the local associations: “In Genoa, the resources destined for culture are concentrated on major events that can be monetized rather than on the enhancement of the places of documentation, even if these places constitute their foundation and indispensable substrate; libraries, archives and museums, which in our city form a complex of extraordinary richness and variety if they have suffered for some time from serious shortages due to the lack of sufficient resources and the constant constant of the qualifier of the community, and their social role as places of aggregation and of relationship at the city level, but also at the neighborhood level, for all age groups and at all levels. It is a question of resources, of course, but also and above all of a lack of awareness of the role that these institutions play in the area. “
One say it, Marcella Rognonilibrary sector professional e candidate for the city council in the Sinistra Italiana list. “As Sinistra Italiana Genova, we make our concerns expressed by the sector associations. We believe it is essential that the Municipality undertakes a commitment and draws up a recruitment plan for young people qualified in the culture sector, with calls for tenders aimed at recruiting specialists in the bibliotechnical, archival and museum sciences – in a sufficient number to guarantee, on the one hand, the resolution of a state of chronic criticality, on the other hand, finally, a professional outlet for the many graduates and graduates who specialize in these disciplines in Genoa, but remain stuck for years in the precariousness of the outsourcing of cultural services.
“As is normal in many Italian cities, we believe that the Municipality should also allocate investments to the adaptation of the offices, and to evening and weekend opening projects that are configured as real services to citizens”.
It is also the opinion of Francesco Colpi, freelance archaeological candidate in the municipal council for the Italian Left: “It is ignoble to think that a metropolis like ours, in a region that has enjoyed 11 million and 781 thousand tourist presences a year and which still enjoys immense heritage cultural, does not have the tools for the protection of Professionals in this same sector. It is clear that Genoa cannot live on culture alone, just as it cannot and must not live on tourism alone; but it is already too late to say and underline that it is necessary to concentrate particular attention as soon as possible on places of documentation and culture, as resources capable of producing a significant economic impact, places of aggregation, relationships and growth, but above all to protect education and the culture of the city “.
