Covid in Campania, first case of Portuguese variant in Naples: she is a 24-year-old girl
The first case of Sars-Cov-2 infection due to the variant BA.5a descendant of Omicron endowed with some mutations that make it more efficient in contagiousness and one of which, in particular, borrowed from the Delta variant, for this reason feared and studied by the Higher Institute of Health.
The one identified in Campania is the variant responsible for the surge in cases and deaths that, for some weeks, have been recorded in Portugal It’s inside Germany. This Campania is one of the first cases in Italy: it is a woman born in 1998 hospitalized in the past in one of the centers of the Asl Napoli 1 with a swab result on May 22, tried in the laboratories of the Asl Napoli 1 and from here positive to Cotugno afterwards a few days for the sample sequencing carried out as part of the health surveillance plan that the Campania Region carries out on behalf of the Higher Institute of Health.
