Canadian women bounce back on worlds and tip Sweden 3-1

Felt defeated after beating Finland 40-17 but lost 2-0 on Monday, and Canada had more finishing around the net by registering an important victory to improve to 1-1 in the Group A pool.
Striker Rhea Hicks drove Canada with two goals, while Reichen Kirchmair hit with a single.
Tuva Kandell scored for Sweden which sounded 2-0 after the first period and 3-1 into the final frame. Sweden lost 6-1 against the USA on Monday and is now 0-2 in the group A pool.
“It feels fantastic to have the first victory under the belt and to have some speed into our next match “, said Kirchmair who opened the scoring only 2:28 into the first period.” Getting my first goal at this level of play was such a exciting moments, and for it to be the first goal of the match [for us] felt really good. “
Canada’s assistant coach Tara Watchorn was pleased with the final result, but was worried about the team’s penalty.
“We live and learn from [our penalties]. It was good training too [our penalty kill]so we will take it and drive with it, but we must learn to get used to international judging and be more disciplined going forward, says Watchhorn.
“We are excited about the challenge [of playing the U.S.]but we just need to keep going, keep sticking to our process and taking one match at a time. ”
Mari Pieterson was in net for Canada and she made 33 saves. Sweden goalkeeper Lisa Jonsson made 53 stops.
Canada plays the United States on Thursday.
