Langer: “Enduring team player”
Laudorin Waltraud Langer, director of the ORF regional studio in Salzburg, recognizes all the good qualities of a soccer player in Manfred Perterer, above all his ability to work in a team. “He was a footballer when he was young. This is how you learn to endure being bumped into. That’s something that you can use in your entire professional life, that you can also deal with things that are a bit uncomfortable. Manfred Perterer is a persistent team player,” says Langer.
The prize, named after the Austrian publicist and legal philosopher René Marcic, is endowed with 6,100 euros. The award is made at the suggestion of an independent expert jury and by a decision of the Salzburg state government. The award was first presented in 1979 and has had to pause since 2019 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Independent expert jury
An independent expert jury decides on the winners. This consists of the chairman Siegbert Stronegger (former ORF regional director), Thomas Steinmaurer (University of Salzburg), Ilse Spadlinek (former ORF journalist) and Nikolaus Koller (board of trustees for journalism training).
Young Talent Award from 2023
A prize for young journalists has so far been prevented by the CoV pandemic and is planned for the coming year for the first time. “The aim is to promote talent and support their entry. Here, too, the focus is on journalistic excellence – regardless of the platform on which the work is published,” says Governor Wilfried Haslauer.
