Level in Mittersill dropped, clean-up work in Pinzgau
timeline
In the municipality of Mittersill (Pinzgau), the tense situation has eased again after the severe storms on Monday evening with flooding and mudslides. The Felbertauernstraße will remain closed at least until Wednesday.
After the clean-up work and selective flood protection measures, the fire brigade ended the operation due to the sinking water level in the Salzach. The level of the Salzach in Mittersill was still 4.80 meters on Tuesday morning. During the afternoon it dropped to four meters.
Local fire brigade commander Roland Rauchenbacher says: “The flood situation in Mittersill has eased at the moment. This also has to do with the fact that the precipitation on the Sonnblick changed from rain to snowfall. The snow line at 3,000 meters is important for us, because then the precipitation in the Salzach is no longer recorded”.
Many homeowners are busy cleaning up
But the situation is still being closely monitored, says the local fire brigade commander. In any case, the clean-up work for around 30 men from the Mittersill volunteer fire brigade has been completed. Not so with homeowners. They shovel even further and repair damage to gardens and houses. Road repairs are also in progress.
The highest level of the Salzach in Mittersill last year is still one meter higher than the high of 4.80 on Tuesday. Then the improved flood protection in Mittersill will reach its limits.
