Heavy thunderstorms also swept across the country on Monday evening. After flooding in Saalfelden, several mudflows went down in Hollersbach and Mittersill (also in Pinzgau). There were boulders as big as cars, according to the fire department. The extent of the damage is to be assessed on Tuesday.
The Felbertauernstraße remains closed for the time being. Shortly after 8 p.m., the Mittersill fire brigade was alerted after heavy thunderstorms fell – including in the Felbertal.
streams burst their banks
Several streams burst their banks, roads were murdered – and houses too, says the Mittersill local fire brigade commander Roland Rauchenbacher: “In the Felbertal, people and houses and vehicles were trapped. We brought them to safety.”
Hard night on Tuesday
According to the state fire brigade association, there were ten fire brigade operations in Hollersbach on Tuesday night, seven in Mittersill and four in Bramberg. Uttendorf, Stuhlfelden and Zell am See follow with one each. A total of 167 men and women from the Pinzgau fire brigades were deployed during the night.

Felbertauernstraße further closed
During the night, the Mittersill fire brigade was supported by comrades from Stuhlfelden, Hollersbach and East Tyrol in securing the Felbertauernstraße. On Tuesday, the emergency services get a more detailed picture of the situation: “We are now looking at how much material is still in the trenches. The problem is that more rain started during the night.”
The Felbertauernstraße was partly buried two meters deep. The road is still closed. It is not yet clear when they can be released again.
200 fire brigade operations on Whit Monday
200 firefighting operations due to storms
In the state of Salzburg, too, the storm front kept the emergency services on their toes on Sunday evening. They had to be deployed almost 200 times – in the town of Saalfelden (Pinzgau) alone there were 93 deployments. Of all the districts, only the Lungau was spared – more on this in salzburg.ORF.at (6.6.2022)
