Design Week: What to see at Fuorisalone 2022 in Milan
Milan Design Week and its Fuorisalone avoided animating Milan from June 6 to 12 with a (very) rich program of installations, exhibitions and events throughout the city, in often breathtaking settings. Selection of appointments not to be missed for this 2022 edition.
Arrived at its 60th edition, long awaited after two years of pandemic, the Salone del Mobile returns to invade the Rho Fiera fair from June 7th. And the crowd is expected!
The return of the Salone del Mobile also raises the main question: what to see at Fuorisalone, which starts on Monday June 6? If the answer is “everything”, it is of course essential to draw up a selection from the more than 300 installations, exhibitions and events that enrich this 2022 edition according to the theme “Between Space and Time”. Appointments organized in the traditional “design district”, and in a series of new places to discover even on the outskirts of the city. The opportunity for Milan to open in all splendor – and with effervescence – its mythical and historical places, offering a rediscovery of the architecture of the Lombard capital and its districts, under the prism of design.
Installations and events to see in the Brera Design District
Among the most effervescent neighborhoods of Fuorisalone, Brera confirms its leading position by bringing together more than 160 events under the title “Designing the present, choosing the future”.
For the first time, Porsche is taking part in design week, where it presents “The Art of Dreaming”an immersive, dreamlike installation by floral artist Ruby Barber in the stunning Clerici Palacewhich interprets the interaction between nature and technology (Via Clerici, 5).
In the same street, the Circolo Filologico Milanese (via Cleric 10), and in particular the historic Liberty room, hosts the unmissable group exhibition Design Variations 2022, organized by MoscaPartner, with a work site specific on the facade: a pop animation by Olimpia Zagnoli.
Also in the heart of Brera, on take a curious look inside the cloister of San Simpliciano, to explore a selection of Anglo-Saxon design, with the presence in particular of Philippe Malouin and Jasper Morrison. On the San Simpliciano square again, we interfere in the Milanese showroom Folium flora to admire the scenography of the english designer Sam Baronwho imagined a unique staging: three original carpets played on the technical limits of the brand giving rise to a contemporary and most surprising bouquet of flowers, mixing the lines of the floor and space, the classic and the modern (Tai Ping, Piazza San Simpliciano).
In Brera, theOrto Botany, a historic 18th century garden nestled between the old palaces of the district, remains a must for admiring the grandiose installations of the Fuorisalone. This year, feel the energy represents a route made with 500 meters of antibacterial copper tubing, inviting the public to discover, among centuries-old plants, the different forms of sustainable energy, and to play with the phenomena of solar, wind and evaporative cooling. At the end of Fuorisalone, the copper will be reused in a circular design perspective. The exhibition of the Orto botanico is part of the cricuit “Re-Generation Design” by Interniorganized like every year at thenational university of milan but also Piazza Cordusio. To see at the Statale, more than 50 projects and installations (with experiments at stake) which take place in the interior courtyards dating from the 18th century.
Al’Brera civic aquariumwe discover a symbolic installation, Momentum. The visual and experimental production, designed by Stark in this emblematic Milanese place, is intended to be interactive through a relationship between light and sound, to bring out two visions of time: scientific time and that perceived by human life.
The best of Fuorisalone des 5Vie – corso Magenta and surroundings
In the district, associated with collection design, the events and installations intend to tell a vision of a more responsible future, based on sharing and interdisciplinarity.
At Turati Palace, masterful – The Dutch in Milanwelcomes the work of Dutch designers with an installation of strong visual impact, located in the heart of the inner courtyard.
On the borders of the 5Vie district, the obviously unmissable Rossana Orlandi Gallery. “The Empress of Design” presents the danish housea concentrate of the design and philosophy of the Danish art of living (Via Matteo Bandello, 14).
the Stelline Palacehousing theFrench Institute of Milan (Corso Magenta 63), confirms a stage of the Fuorisalone not to be missed. The exhibition “Travel indoors, the French art of living”, mixes art and design. Produced in partnership with le french design, the exhibition presents the self-published work of interior designers who have won the Le French Design 100 prize. ten works of contemporary art chosen from three important Milanese galleries (Monica De Cardenas, Antonia Jannone and Viasaterna).
The Fuorisalone to see in the Tortona – Navigli – Darsena district
Since the beginnings of Fuorisalone, the Tortona district, now extended to the Navigli and the Darsena, has focused the public’s attention, day and night. This is where we find the large industrial spaces, which have become hubs for exhibitions. Let us mention in particular Superstudio Piu (via Tortona 27) where you will have to take a look at the section dedicated to female creativity, as well as at the installation of designer Germane Barnes for Lexus.
a few meters away, Milan Base organize the second edition of “We will design” (Via Bergognone 34): a veritable experimental laboratory with international designers. Three major projects are presented from the ground floor to the first floor: Temporary Home – Casa Base”, “Exhibit” and “They will Design”. Still at BASE, Ikea presents Ikea Festival with a rich program of events and immersive experiences to tell the future of retail and design.
For the more nocturnal, a rich musical scene, produced in collaboration with Le Cannibale, will animate the interior courtyard and the BASE rooms every evening of the week with live music, from aperitif time.
Note also the seventh edition of Rocks of Tortonabetween Opificio 31 (where the large public art installation by IQOS is expected), via Savona and via Bergognone.
At the Darsena, the “Floating Forest” (Rue Gabriele D’Annunzio 20) will undoubtedly be one of the most photographed installations at Fuorisalone 2022. The Floating Forest, an installation by Timberland in collaboration with Stefano Boeri Interiors, intends to reflect on the importance of urban reforestation.
Other events scattered around the city, and new Fuorisalone locations to discover
The huge Garage Traversi of via Bagutta (in the middle of the luxury quadrangle) was chosen for the first time by Louis Vuitton to present the new collection of Nomadic Objects, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.
As for Hermesthe saddler’s house returns to Pelotathis historic place where Basque pelota was still played until 1997 (Via Palermo, 10 – Brera).
The French design and fashion brand, The Factorymeet in the superb setting of the Poldi Pezzoli Museum (by Manzoni 12), and offers a journey through 50 objects, 17 designers and a single color: orange, which personalizes the two floors of the palace.
In the Porta Venezia – Centrale district, push open the doors of the hotel with the “pension” spirit imagined by the French brand The worldly family, emblematic of the Franco-Milanese style like the founder Constance Gennari. A welcoming place where time seems to stand still (via Vitruvius 25).
Other place. After the success of last September during the restricted design week, Alcova revives again the park and the deserted and fascinating buildings of theBaggio former military hospital (via Simone Saint Bon 1). A bigger edition than the last since a fourth building of the abandoned complex is dedicated to the most innovative projects.
