Celtics’ Carl Starfelt delivers Insta message after being sent to Sweden
Celtic midfielder Carl Starfelt has delivered an Instagram update to the supporters after being drawn to Sweden against Slovenia on Thursday night.
Starfelt made their first competitive start for their country in their Nations League away match. It looked almost certain that he would bet on a place in the starting eleven. But in extra time at the end of the first half, Carl pulled up and needed to be taken off with a suspected hamstring injury. [Daily Record].
It remains to be seen if he will be in form for the pre-season or for the start of the Premier League promotion. But Starfelt has confirmed that the injury has excluded him from the rest of the international this week:
Now the focus is completely shifting to the recovery process for the great Swede after a morally demanding injury in international service.
Starfelt was a key cog in Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic team last season. He made 49 appearances and was the first midfielder along with Cameron Carter-Vickers [Transfermarkt].
With the Premier League season set to start at the end of July, there will be much hope that Starfelt can snatch his injury well in advance.
Carl Starfelt deprived of his great opportunity for Sweden; time to press the reset button
You have to feel for Starfelt when you take everything here into account. This was his great opportunity to show Janne Andersson what he was all about. There is a good chance that he would have started much more than just the Slovenia match.
But he will not get the chance until now after the hamstring. It is almost a bad joke for the midfielder considering injuries to position rivals such as Victor Lindelof, Marcus Danielson and Filip Helander respectively.
However, it is about pressing the reset button and going again. Let’s not forget that Starfelt is guaranteed Champions League football next season with Celtic.
Should he succeed in being a regular part of our UCL campaign, it must automatically keep him in Andersson’s plans. And if he performs well? Goodness knows what it would do for his international career.
For now, Ange Postecoglou simply hopes that Starfelt gets on the horse again and can get full speed on himself before the season begins.
This is the only important goal the player will look at.
