Maltese archers won 12 medals in the Slovenian mass competition
Maltese archers hit more than a few shots abroad and brought home three gold, seven silver and two bronze medals at one spectacular event in Slovenia.
The competition has been approved by the global archery community – known as the Sons of Archery – which boasts more than 4,500 archers from 42 different countries.
Each year, one country hosts a four-day European meeting, which brings together up to 120 archers from different countries with the opportunity to test their archery skills at various events.
Maltese archers have been participating in the tournament every year since 2017, but have missed two years due to congestion related to COVID-19. Although their catch with 12 medals was any sign, they came back with a considerable bang.
Speaking to Lovin Malta was Ray Napier, the team leader whose eyes remain firmly fixed on the prospects for future international efforts. Among them are the October Spanish Archery Championships and of course the Sons of Archers 2023, which will take place in Belgium.
“The team will take a well-deserved break,” Napier said. “But from there we will continue to conquer the world, Europe first.”
“I couldn’t be more pleased with the team’s performance. They really exceeded my expectations and set a limit for the challenges ahead. “
