Transatlantyk Award for prof. Silvano de Fanti
prof. Silvano de Fanti, author of, among others of the Italian translation of “Pan Tadeusz”, he received the Transatlantyk Prize for the popularizer of Polish literature abroad on Friday in Krakow. The award was granted during the 5th World Congress of Translators of Polish Literature.
“There are those who don’t even want to liaise with the writers who have references, but I do have them anyway. For me, it is a kind of reaping the benefits that maybe this translation will be better, but it will certainly be truer, ”said Prof. . Silvano de Fanti.
He is honored with an active popularizer of Polish culture in Italy. He has translated the classics of Polish literature as well as prose writers and contemporary poets, incl. Wyspiański, Norwid, Prus, Różewicz, Szymborska, Hartwig and Tokarczuk.
The greatest publicity brought him the original of “Pan Tadeusz”, which in his laudation, prof. Artur Grabowski.
“His translations are widely believed by employed experts. They are distinguished primarily by the applicant with his masterpieces, and by the ambitions of not a scholarly philologist, but also, but – I have no hesitation in saying – a poet “- assessed the laudator.

This year, the laureates of the two previous years were honored, because due to the pandemic they could no longer receive the award – prof. Ewa Thompson and prof. Tokimasa Sekiguchi.
In addition to the statuette by Łukasz Kiefering, the laureate receives 10 thousand. euro. Its presentation in the capital of the Congress took place during the ongoing capital of Małopolska, the 5th World of Translators of Polish Literature.
