A train derailed near Garmisch-Partenkirchen around midday on Friday. Four people died and 30 were injured. The recovery of the passengers was completed late Friday afternoon. Tyrolean rescue workers were also on duty.
The regional train towards Munich derailed north of Garmisch. “As far as we can see, everyone has been rescued from the train,” said a police spokesman on Friday. The rescue workers would certainly search the wagons of the derailed entrance again at their leisure. “Working in such an area is not without risk,” said the spokesman.
According to this, around 30 people were injured in the train accident on Friday afternoon, 15 of them seriously. This information can change over the course of the evening if reports from the hospitals about the condition of the patients are received.
Surrounding roads are also closed
Because of the rescue operation after the train accident, the railway line between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Munich and the parallel federal highway 2 remained closed. There were long traffic jams on the roads in the region. The closures of the tracks and the federal road could “possibly last into the weekend”, said the police spokesman on Friday afternoon.
Control center Tyrol issued a major alarm
As the shift manager of the Tyrol control center confirmed to ORF Tyrol, the Bavarians had reported that they were running out of resources. The Tyrol control center had therefore issued a major alarm for the rescue services in the Innsbruck city, Innsbruck country and Reutte districts.
The first information from Bavaria was received by the Tyrol control center at around 12.35 p.m. Originally, the first report mentioned 50 to 100 injuries, the Tyrolean shift manager said. Five helicopters were initially requested from Tyrol, as well as three ambulances from the Tyrolean Red Cross, namely from Seefeld, Ehrwald and Kematen.
