The 5th World Congress of Translators of Polish Literature has begun
The 5th World Congress of Polish Literature – that is, Reading Translators, whose heroes are, thanks to which readers from all over the world can learn about the works of Polish authors – began on Thursday in Krakow. Translators from over 50 countries take part in it.
The meeting does not explain the common feast day around the world, but – like Grothek Jaworski, director of the Book Institute – this time it takes place in the shadows.

44 sessions, workshops and talks will be invited to all assemblies, both those who come to Krakow and those who will vote for online interviews. He takes part in the congress. 500 participants from whom you will represent yourselves from over 50 countries. On Friday, the Transatlantyk Prize will be presented, awarded to “an outstanding popularizer of Polish literature abroad”.
In a letter read out by Mateusz Adamkowski, the director of the Ministry of Patronage of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, Minister of Culture Piotr Gliński thanked the audience “not only for the difficult work with Polish” and the difficult Polish language, but also for “contributions to Polish literature and culture abroad.”
“To you, translators, you show us to the world, in a geographical location you put up windows through which readers from all over the world can look, get to know Poland and Poles, find out about our life, history and culture,” wrote the Deputy Prime Minister, addressing the community translate.
In the opinion of Gliński, and then in their content, we give “for the task and the task of management”. “The world sees our literature, your words, you are at the same time its spokesmen and the most insightful readers. You should overestimate this role” – through the actions of the minister.
As he assured, it was precisely because the role was translated in the same way as the Ministry of Culture and the Book Institute to support people of this profession and thanks to the authorization of Polish explanatory literature outside our country. During the award, bronze medals were awarded “Zasłużony Kulturze Gloria Artis”, which were awarded to Romanian Slavist, Polish philologist and translator Constantin Geambasu and Hungarian literary historian, critic and translator Lajos Palfalvi. The inaugural lecture was given by prof. Włodzimierz Bolecki.
