Spills in Rio San Marino from Titano company, Cassation confirms conviction
A total sanction of almost 55 thousand euros, but the decision can also highlight the long-standing problems of the Sammarine sewer system.
ANTONIO FABBRI – The story dates back to 2017 and reached the Italian Supreme Court with the publication, last May 30, of sentence number 21034. The disputed facts concern two episodes of spills in the San Marino stream in January and May 2017.
From the reconstruction contained in the sentence of the Supreme Court it emerges that a company and its legal representative were accused of having “poured into the San Marino stream things designed to offend and soil people, since they were waste from both industrial dischargesbecause they contain aluminum, borium, barium, copper, iron, zinc, lead, nickel and chromium, is domestic in nature, as deduced from the high concentration of Eschericia coli “. The effluent pouring into the stream through one Discharge in “absolute lack of authorization”, had caused the chromatic and olfactory alteration of the waters of the San Marino river and in part of the Marecchia river, where the stream flows. This story, in particular in the defense observations relating to the public sewerage network, makes us reflect and once again raises the age-old problem of San Marino sewers, but more generally of the spillage of wastewater and sewage into the waterways of the Titan. (…)
