Dispute over beer tapping at the Dult
timeline
In the run-up to the Dult, a curious argument has now broken out about the beer keg being tapped. This is usually celebrated at the opening by the mayor. However, Harald Preuner (ÖVP) has contracted Covid-19. The SPÖ is now criticizing the fact that no woman was interviewed for the representation.
When the mayor fails to attend official events such as the opening of the Dult, it is usually the turn of his deputies or other high-ranking city officials.
Deputy Mayor Bernhard Auinger (SPÖ) has no time on Saturday to represent the sick Preuner. He’s on vacation. Instead, local councilor Florian Kreibich should now carry out the traditional barrel attack.
SPÖ club boss sees women discriminated against
However, this promptly led to criticism from the SPÖ: After all, there are still three women in the city government, including the black Deputy Mayor Barbara Unterkofler. Andrea Brandner, the SPÖ club chairwoman in the Salzburg municipal council, said it was hard to see why a woman couldn’t hit a beer keg.
The mayor’s office tried to calm things down: the decision was not up to the city, but to the exhibition center.
Exhibition boss: “We wanted the supervisory board as a representative”
Its managing director Alexander Kribus also had an explanation ready as to why no woman should tap the beer keg: Kribus said they wanted to bestow the honor on a member of the supervisory board of the trade fair.
Here the choice had just fallen on one of the deputy chairmen of the supervisory board – that is Mayor Preuner. Only men sit on the supervisory board of the Salzburg trade fair.
