Turkey did not receive any proposals from Finland and Sweden regarding their membership of NATO
Turkey has not received documented guarantees that Sweden and Finland will refuse to support Kurdish political organizations, including the extremist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) recognized by Ankara, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who spoke in parliament.
“We have not yet received a specific document. We can not believe the words that would not be written in the documents,” Erdogan said.
He also recalled that Sweden and Finland supported the embargo on the supply of weapons to Turkey, but at the same time “armed terrorists from Syria for free”.
“This practice is not in line with the rule of law. These are the methods of the terrorist countries, “he said.
The issue of Finnish and Swedish support for Kurdish political organizations became particularly urgent after these countries decided to join NATO. Turkey blocked the expansion of the alliance to the Scandinavian peninsula and demanded guarantees from Helsinki and Stockholm that they would not support the PKK.
“We have openly stated that we oppose the membership of these two countries in NATO because of their support for the terrorist organization PKK and its affiliates. NATO is a security organization, not a terrorist aid organization. They protect these terrorist organizations together with the police in Sweden, Finland, Germany, France and the Netherlands. They are marching with banners representing the leaders of terrorist organizations “, confirmed Erdogan Ankara’s concerns.
