Malta has seen a significant increase in holiday bookings and visitor numbers for this year, thanks to the reduction of travel restrictions for the Mediterranean island nation.
Leading tour operators are reporting an increase in holiday sales to Malta. Mercury Holidays has revealed that advance bookings for June to September of this year have increased by 366% compared to the same period in 2021, with June being the most popular departure month to travel this year. the summer.
Meanwhile, Love Holidays has made more bookings to Malta than in 2019, with an increase in sales from June to September this year, compared to the last few years.
The jump in sales is linked to updates on travel restrictions to the country, with fully vaccinated UK visitors no longer required to take pre-departure covid tests. Malta has also removed its pre-travel authorization requirement for countries on its high-risk “dark red” list, which has also been scrapped.
Malta Tourism Authority director Tolene Van Der Merwe said: “People are feeling much more confident returning to international travel, as evidenced by the dramatic increase in advanced bookings, and highlighting the location. Malta as a major destination for the British this summer. Now that pre-departure PCR testing measures for UK tourists traveling to Malta are over, individuals are reassured and find it easier to travel abroad again. ”
To celebrate this rise, Malta is hosting a pop-up wine and food experience at the Shoreditch BoxPark in London from 15 to 16 June 2022, with a special appearance by the former footballer of Manchester United and England Wes Brown and a hand-painted mural of the Maltese Islands displayed in Ebor Street until 26 June.
