ImpulsStartChor2022: Singers from Obernheim and Geislingen sing in the Salzburg Cathedral – Meßstetten & Großer Heuberg
A performance in the Salzburg Cathedral could be called an honour. This has now been granted to the singers of the project choir ImpulsStartChor, who undertook a concert trip to Austria.
Obernheim/Geislingen – The idea of founding a project choir and taking it on a concert trip to Salzburg was something that choir director and music teacher Cordula Bieber carried around with her for a long time. A few months ago they got down to business and founded a project choir with members of their two choirs – the MGV Harmonie Obernheim and the singing club Eintracht Geislingen – and other singers. Originally you see them on 70 to 80 interested parties, but after a short time the project choir already had 100 singers. Charles Gounod’s “Messe No 7” and John Rutter’s “Schau auf die Welt”, with which she advertised the project choir, also found fans. After the start of rehearsals had to be postponed twice due to corona, the project choir met for the first time in March in the rooms of Eintracht Geislingen and in the Festhalle Obernheim.
Main rehearsal in the Beuron monastery
It was tested in two groups. For the dress rehearsal, a larger room, preferably a special room, was needed to prepare for the concert in Salzburg in the best possible way. After consultation with Father Andelin from the Beuron monastery, the ImpulsStartChor2022 framed a May service in the abbey church of the Beuron monastery.
Before the big performance on the last Sunday in May, the fine work started again. Bieber had planned the performance down to the smallest detail with the cathedral conductor János Czifra. The choir was originally intended to sing at 11:30 a.m., but since the Salzburg military band canceled its participation in the 10 a.m. service, the project choir was allowed to sing at high mass.
The approximately 100 singers are already on Friday in two coaches and some private cars to Austria. After the rooms in the Seminary Priests had been occupied, a guided tour through Salzburg’s old town, the hometown of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, was on the program. On Saturday, one group goes to the local Gaisberg, the second group takes the bus to Hellbrunn Palace, and a third group goes to Königssee near Berchtesgaden. But before that, one last rehearsal was announced.
Live broadcast
The big performance in the Salzburg Cathedral followed on Sunday, which was broadcast live on the Internet so that the relatives who stayed at home could also follow the performance of the project choir. The singers were accompanied by cathedral organist Heribert Metzger, conducted by Cordula Bieber.
The choir started with the “Kyrie eleison”. The titles “Look at the World”, “Gloria” and “Sanctus” followed. It was obvious from the men and women from the choir that they had a lot of fun with this performance.
After lunch, the journey goes back to Tieringen and Geislingen on Sunday afternoon. The performance of the project choir is in the media library of the Salzburg Cathedral https://www.salzburger-dom.at/live/mediathek (05/29/2022) to see.
