Talga starts test mining in Sweden
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Talga has started test mining at its Niska South deposit, at the graphite project Vittangi, in Sweden.
After the successful first phase of sample mining during the fourth quarter of last year, the company plans to extract the remaining 25,000 tonnes of graphite ore from Niska South, starting at the beginning of next month.
The pilot mine will be operated under the existing permit from the Environmental Assessment Board within the County Administrative Board of Norrbotten.
The raw material extracted from the test mine will provide feed for large-scale battery anode sample production, including at Talga’s recently commissioned electric vehicle anode plant in LuleĆ„.
“The final phase of Talga’s test mine in Niska South is an important step in establishing our European vertically integrated green anode business, which we believe will be a significant supplier to this key market for batteries and electric vehicles (EV). The raw material from the test mine will be used for advanced qualification tests at our EVA anode factory with a number of global customers when we scale up to commercial production in 2024, says Talga CEO. Mark Thompson on Tuesday.
The EVA plant produces Talnode-C anode for ongoing EV lithium-ion battery qualification and customer acquisition processes.
