On Tuesday 31 May and Wednesday 1 June, the Comics & Science events are back, with the next showcase in Pisa, in collaboration with the University of Pisa, the IIT-CNR of Pisa, the Museum of Computing Instruments and EGO, the European Gravitational Observatory.
Two days of meetings, exhibitions and activities immersed in the world of Comics & Science. An event that will see the participation of some of the most prolific authors of Comics & Science: Leo Ortolani (Misterius, The Internet Issue, The Crystals Issue) and Gabriele Peddes (The Babbage Issue, The Nabbovaldo Issue, The Cyber Security Issue) as well as naturally by the directors Roberto Natalini (CNR) and Andrea Plazzi (Symmaceo).
The event is aimed at everyone but in particular at schools and institutes interested in discovering the STEM world through comic book narration. For students of the fourth and fifth grades of primary schools and students of lower secondary schools there are in fact 4 meeting slots by appointment subject to availability.
Here are the activities organized by the Museum of Calculation Tools and CoderDojo:
WEDNESDAY 1 JUNE
“Hunt for the Nazi Cipher”
Workshop where participants are shown how the Enigma machine works, used during the Second World War by the German army and decrypted with the contribution of Alan Turing.
“Programming in comics!”
Meeting to learn how to program a graphic comic adventure and animate characters together with the mentors of Pisa CoderDojo! (The event is also open to teachers interested in innovative coding teaching among young people).

At the end of each slot it will be possible to visit the Comics & Science table exhibition in the company of the authors present and the exhibition on computer science entitled “Hello World!” an interactive path divided into six sections that illustrate the evolution of tools for calculation, from mechanical machines to Apple computers, including a time span from the second half of the nineteenth century to the 2000s, passing through iconic objects such as the Olivetti Programma 101 and the Apple II.
The “Hello world!” it will be open both Tuesday 31 May and Wednesday 1 June, from 10:00 to 18:00.
