Ex-Festival President Helga Rabl-Stadler will be working for the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs from Wednesday: she will be special adviser for foreign culture and will take care of around 30 Austrian cultural forums worldwide.
Rabl-Stadler directed the fortunes of the Salzburg Festival for 27 years. From Wednesday she will be jointly responsible for “the further development of Austria’s cultural presence abroad” in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
New projects and cooperations for cultural forums
Rabl-Stadler’s area of responsibility ranges “from the dialogue with science, the art and culture scene and civil society to international cultural mediation in the traditional sense to innovative co-creative formats in new territory,” it said. The aim is “an even better basis for discussion and an even deeper understanding of each other”. Specifically, the 30 Austrian cultural forums worldwide are to be convinced, in addition to innovative projects and cooperations, also through a “more intensive involvement of the federal states”.
Rabl-Stadler was happy to show about her new job in the broadcast: “I firmly believe that art can and must offer orientation in our world that has gotten out of joint. Austria, the small country, should play a major role in this: if we lure people out of their bubble of opinion, if we encourage them to think deeper and further, if we help to develop imagination for new solutions.” Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg (ÖVP) praised Rabl-Stadler’s “groundbreaking will to implement things”. She is “an enormous enrichment for our house”.
