Marseille breaks a new record
This year, OM managed to set a record never seen in the club’s history in Ligue 1.
This season has been very rich in emotions for Olympique de Marseille. Indeed, at mid-season, the Marseilles mastered their subject very well in the league (2nd in the fall, the Marseilles could even worry about the Parisian leader during the second part of the season). At European level, Jorge Sampaoli and his men managed to save the day by being knocked down in the Europa League Conference after a failed campaign in the Europa League. A good first part of the season which foreshadowed a very good end to the season with why not a trophy in support. But, events have clearly taken a completely different turn.
Indeed, the Marseilles were both eliminated in the Coupe de France and in the Europa Conference League (semi-final against Feyenoord). A descent into hell that could have been even more tragic. Indeed, one day from the end, the Marseilles lost their second place to the detriment of Monaco, a place which they finally recovered thanks to a goal from Lensois Ganago at the very end of the match against Monaco (during the last championship day).
According to statistical data published in the local press in recent hours, the Phocaeans have been able to deprive their opponents of the ball, dominating their opponents several times in possession. In the 2021-2022 season in the league, they even set a new record, since the Olympians had possession 62% of the time on average, unheard of for them in the elite.

A vision of offensive play that bears the hallmark of Sampaoli. The Argentinian technician has therefore succeeded in imposing his paw after a season and a half on the Olympian bench. A good omen for the rest of his adventure on the canebière, as a reminder, the Marseilles will play in the Champions League next year.
