Lisbon will eat Amazon ants at new street food festival
it’s called Foodtopia – A feast of food and stories, the street food festival that will give the ants from the Amazon to Lisbon residents and beyond. It will be on the 2nd and 3rd of July, at Jardim Botânico Tropical, in Belém, and in addition to the chef Alex Alex Atala, responsible for DOM in São Paulo, with two Brazilian Michelin stars, and ambassador of the event, will be serving several signature dishes and several restaurants considered to be traditional Portuguese cuisine.

In addition to the event’s ambassador, Alex Atala, join no Tropical Botanical Garden in Belém Henrique Sá Pessoa from Lisbon ALMA, winner of the Chef of the Year for the guide Good Bed Good Tablewith two Michelin stars and Golden Fork in the same edition of the guide, and Rui Paula Casa de Chá da Boa Nova, in Leça da Palmeira, also with two Michelin stars and Golden Fork.
from Estremoz comes Michele Marques from Mercearia Gadanha, from Lisbon arrives Marlene Vieira from the Zunzum restaurant and Antonio Galapito of the Prado restaurant, in the center of Lisbon. Altogether they will be approx. 50 national and international chefs that will transport your identity to a delicious and unexpected dish of street food, between meat, fish, vegetarian options, and various desserts.
But not just from fine dining programming is carried out Foodtopia – a feast of food and stories. traditional gastronomy are going to be the biggest Portuguese ones, like Ramiro in Lisbon, the Solar dos Presuntos in Lisbon, Silver Fork for the Boa Cama Boa Mesa, with almost 50 years of history, and still the mugasa Anadia, with the suckling pig from Bairrada by Ricardo Nogueira, who received the distinction of Mesa com Mérito in the year edition of Boa Cama.
In addition to cooks representing the cuisine of the various Portuguese regions, from the coast to the interior, another of the highlights of the go to strong presence of cooks from some of the most representative communities in the country, such as Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Angola, São Tomé and Príncipe, Cape Verde, Brazil, East Timor, Goa or Macau. The mix of cultures and geographies is not, moreover, confined to gastronomic proposals. With 100 years of history and more than 600 species of tropical or subtropical origin from several continents, the Tropical Botanical Garden is the magician that welcomes the event, more local, more like one of the protagonists of Foodtopia.
On the 2nd of July, Saturday, the doors of the Tropical Botanical Garden they are open between 12:00 and 23:00, while the next day, July 3, they close at 22:30. Entrance to the venue costs €10 (free for children up to 12 years old) and the dishes have a single price of €6.
