Konecranes will supply replacement fuel management machines for three reactor units to Forsmark’s nuclear power plant, the largest electricity producer in Sweden. The order is part of the plant modernization work. The new machines are equipped with the latest Konecranes technology and operator interfaces to improve the productivity and security of the plant’s operations. The order was booked in April 2022.
Forsmark’s nuclear power plant in Swedenmainly owned by waterfall, is currently modernizing its facilities to meet increased safety and environmental requirements, to extend the life of the reactor and to increase production. They chose Konecranes to renew their fuel management machines to support continued safe and productive operations.
The new Konecranes Fuel handling machines meet all major international nuclear power standards and use single-fault safe technology. This technology is designed to prevent load falls during the occurrence of a single fault in the lifting system. The Konecranes Safety and diagnostic systems continuously monitor the operation of the equipment, which improves the safety of fuel handling and the productivity of the nuclear power plant.
The equipment will be used to move the fuel assemblies between the reactor sites and the fuel sites at each of the three units. The contract covers the replacement of all three fuel handling machines within five years to ensure that they are ready for the planned refueling interruptions.
“This contract shows Konecranes role in our customers’ work to secure socially important functions such as energy production. Forsmark’s nuclear power plant is a pioneer in their environmental work and places high demands on suppliers in quality and environmental issues and we are proud to be able to support them in their sustainability work “, says Steve WaisanenDeputy CEO and Head of BU Nuclear from Konecranes.
