Maximum score for Rimini, which is confirmed as a bike friendly city
Rimini continues to confirm a city made to measure for two wheels: it was decided, once again, by the Italian Federation of the Environment and Cycle Path which has decided to recognize our Municipality the yellow flag ‘FIAB Comuniclabili’, a prestigious national that evaluates the degree of cycling in the territories and accompanies administrations in the development of bike friendly policies. The reason for the awarding of the prize, as reported in the official press release of the award ceremony, which took place last Saturday in the Sala del Tricolore of the Municipality of Reggio-Emilia, is to be attributed to the “virtuous choices in terms of cycle mobility, starting from creation of the Parco del Mare, a new model of Riviera intended as a green public space, totally free from cars and asphalt “. A change in a sustainable key, in favor of the use of bicycles, which earned our city the maximum score, represented by five bike smileys on the flag. The President below AB, Alessandro Tursi, in his speech, intended the new Rimini waterfront as intended to represent “an urban and cultural transformation that is unparalleled in the country, to have and to FI in coastal locations”. “A satisfaction for our entire city, which once again stands as an avant-garde and modern territory, capable of focusing on sustainable and ecological travel with the concreteness of facts, in the name of improving life – declare the Councilor for mobility of the Municipality of Rimini Roberta Frisoni and the Councilor for the pact for the climate Francesca Mattei, who on Saturday withdrew the famous yellow banner in the name of the Giunta and the Rimini citizens -. The projects we have carried out in recent years are many and tangible: in 2020 the total km of cycle paths were 123, in 2021, with the construction of the north sea park, the via Roma cycle path, the cycle paths along the deviator Ausa and the one on via Graziani, there has been an increase in the cycle network of about +9 km for a total of about 132 km. By mid-2022, between the tracks already built and those in progress, such as via Melozzo da Forlì, via Circonvallazione Occidentale, that of the two new stretches of waterfront from Piazzale Kennedy to piazzale Benedetto Croce and those of the station area will be added a total of another +2 km by the summer, to be added, moreover, to the construction of the cycle / pedestrian bridge at the Red Grotto and the cycle path as part of the works of the State Road 16. In addition to the kilometers, as an administration, we have also invested to promote and encourage the use of the so-called ‘sweet’ means of transport, setting up, for example, the Bike Park, an innovative space ‘temple’ of bicycles, a unique structure at national level, where tourists can discover and find a whole integrated services and opportunities to move easily around the area in the saddle: from free cargo bikes to single-gear, six-speed or electric bike rental, from the possibility of storing i to luggage to the facilities for those traveling by train and to the contemporary use the two wheels, up to the electric recharges for the bike or the accessories available in the internal shop. A strategic place also due to its proximity to the station, and therefore particularly convenient for commuters and tourists who come to us. When we talk about sustainability we mean just that: services, adequate infrastructures, safety, green corridors. It is not a question of a rhetorical tinsel, of a word thrown there to ‘make a scene’, but of a strategy on the very specific city of tomorrow, which as the Municipality of Rimini we want to continue to focus on with determination “.
